PREVALENCE OF HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTION IN PATIENTS WITH ULCER DISEASE
The aim ofthe study was to determine theprevalence 0fH pylori infection in 72 patients with ulcer disease. The presence of H. pylori was detected by the method of polymerase chaim reaction (PCR) and histochemi- cally. The presence of H.pylori was found in 30% ofpatients histochemically, and in 89% of patients by the method of PCR. The authors concluded that method ofhistochemistry is fast andpractical but relatively unreliable method for the determination of H. pylori, as distignuished from the PCR method which was found to be highly reliable but inappropriate for routine diagnosis ofH. pylori due to the high cost of the procedure.
