Optimality criteria method for multiple state optimal design problems
In multiple state optimal design problems, one is trying to find the best arrangement of given materials, such that the obtained body has some optimal properties regarding m different regimes. Starting with the stationary diffusion setting, from necessary conditions of optimality one is able to gain some important information on optimal design, e.g.~existence of an optimal design among sequential laminates. Moreover, some calculations have important application to the optimality criteria method for numerical solution. In this iterative algorithm, the presented results enable one to calculate explicitly the update of design variables, similar to the problems with one state equation. Therefore, its implementation is simple, showing nice convergence results on a number of examples.
