Synthetic Inertial Navigation Systems: Case Study of Determining Direction
Josip Stepanić, Gyula Mester and Josip Kasać Abstract— Navigation of autonomous group of vehicles is a compromise between mutually exclusive approaches. On the one hand, navigation precision should be as high as possible, while on the other hand mass of the hardware and vehicles’ energy consumption should be as low as possible. This article develops synthetic inertial navigation system for precise yet energy efficient determination of the group’s velocity direction. It consists of properly averaged information obtained among vehicles forming the autonomous group. We formulate the generic model of autonomous group of horizontally mobile agents. Parameters determining agents’ dynamics are inertia, maneuverability and information transfer range. We argue about the range of parameters for which optimal performance of synthetic navigation occurs.
