The decrease of Na, K-ATPase activity in the renal cortex and medulla induced by enalapril
In this study the influence of enalapril (1 mg kg-1 b. m.), on the Na+K+-ATPase activity in samples of renal cortex and medulla was investigated. The results showed that after one-day treatment the Na;K-ATPase activity had already decreased: in cortical samples the reduction was 16.4 ą 57% whereas in medullar ones it was 10.6 ą 4.9% (n = 10) if compared to the controls. A seven-day treat- ment with enalapril induced no additional effects in the cortical samples, whereas the medullar decrement was as high as 26.9% in comparison to the controls. A four- teen-day treatment induced a decrease of Na+K+-ATPase activity in the cortical and rnedullar samples of 48.6% and 46.7%, respectively, in comparison to the control group.
