Pakoštane - Crkvina
From November 2008 to January 2009 the third excavation campaign in the site of Pakoštane – Crkvina was carried out ; in 2006, systematic archaeological excavations had been started. The excavations revealed the remains of an ecclesiastical architecture complex with the church St Mary. The complex lies in a fertile plain some hundred metres from the shore of Vransko Lake. It was built upon the remains of earlier Roman architecture. The excavations revealed the remains of a church of longitudinal form with a semicircular apse at the east. Immediately by the very church, on the northern and southern sides, side rooms of longitudinal ground plan were formed. At the east, the northern room ended with a straight wall, and the southern with a semicircular apse. In this campaign the excavations were continued within the northern room, in which four later medieval graves and the presbytery of the church were found. In the rooms investigated to date the remains of stone church furnishing belonging to periods from the Late Roman Period to the later Middle Ages have been found, as well as fragments of pottery and glass vessels from the later medieval and modern periods.
