Composition of the essential oil of Micromeria thymifolia (Scop.) Fritsch and its chemical variation
The yield of essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from aerial parts of three different wild-growing populations of Micromeria thymifolia (Scop.) Fritsch varied from 0.6% to 1.5%. The oils were characterised by a very high content of oxygenated monoterpenes (77.4-94.0%). Other components were monoterpene hydrocarbons and sesquiterpenes. There were great differences in the relative amounts of cyclic oxygenated monoterpenes (ketones, oxides and alcohols) as the main constituents of the investigated oils. Pulegone, piperitenone oxide and isomenthol chemotypes were determined.
