High prevalence of metabolic syndrome in an elderly Croatian population- Multicenter study
The aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of MS in relativelčy health elderly Croatian population from 4 different centers: the inland mainly rural region Virovitica, Inland urban center Zagreb, Adriatic mainly rural region of Omiš and urban center Split. High prevalence of MS has been observed. In male poipulation ALP and GGT serum activities were significantly higher in subjects with MS. In female population alpfa-1-antitrypsin concentration was significantly lower in subjects with MS. Nutritional habits data showed that only moderate consumation of wine indicated the protective role against MS in the population presented.
