AN INITIAL EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION OF THE ECALL SERVICE PERFORMANCE
The growing number of road accidents, injuries and fatalities motivated the European Commission to tackle the problem and provide a framework for a safer road transport by introduction of the eCall as a telecommunication service for automatic notification of a road traffic accident, based on existing public land mobile networks and the already established 112 service across the EU. Since 2011, the eCall has been extensively challenged in a series of EU and non-EU states' pilots, organised within the HeERO project, partially funded by the European Commission. Here the representatives of German, Dutch and Croatian national eCall pilots present the methodology, the initial results of the first phase of the eCall service performance validation, both in laboratory and real-network environments, along with the advisories for both the eCall service and standardisation process improvements.
