Cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials are efficacious in evaluation of vestibulospinal pathways in patients with relapse remitting multiple sclerosis.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate latencies and corrected p13-n23 cVEMP amplitudes in patients with relapsing remitting MS. Patients and methods: 60 patients treated in our Refferal Centre for demyelinating diseases with establihed diagnosis of relapse remitting multiple sclerosis were included into study. Control group were 16 healty subjects. cVEMP in response to acoustic clicks of 1 ms duration at the intensity of 130 dB SPL and the stimulation frequency of 1 Hz were studied. Signals were divided in segments of 120 ms duration (20 ms before the stimulus and 100 ms after the stimulus) and averaged. EDSS was calculated in patient with RRMS. Latenties and amplitude of cVEMP response were analysed. Results: In RRMS group there was statistically significant latencies prolongation of N23 wave sternocleidomastoid responses. Latencies of P13 wave did not reached statistical significance. The left sternocleidomastoid P13-N23 normalized amplitude was significantly higher in MS patients. Conclusion: Cervical vestibular eveked myogenic potentials are valuable neurophysiology method in evaluation of vestibulospinal pathway in patients with relapse remitting multiple sclerosis.
