Orthodontic, surgical and prostetic treatment of traumatic dental injury - a case report
AIM: The case report shows the multidisciplinary treatment results of a patient with injury dental trauma. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: An 20-year-old male with an untreated Class II maloclusion who suffered dental trauma playing basketball. The chief complaint of the patient was to resolve the traumatic occlusion and the unaestethic smile as soon as possible. The diagnosis of crown-root fracture of the upper incisors was based on clinical and radiographic examination. Emergency treatment included pulpectomy of lateral left incisor and the extraction of root fractured central right incisor. Fixed orthodontic appliance was used for the respositioning of extruded central left incisor and for space maintenance of extracted incisor. After that the prosthetic replacement with ceramic bridge was made. RESULTS: 6 months after dental trauma patient was very satisfied with the aestethics and functional results. CONCLUSION: Management of dental trauma involves a multidisciplinary team. Orthodontic treatment can assist in the repositioning of displaced teeth and provide physiological stabilisation to facilitate optimal healing and improve prognosis and also to assist in the restoration of the compromised dentition.
