Experimental Investigation and Numerical Analysis of Confined Masonry Walls
Experimental and numerical analysis were performed in order to investigate the behaviour of confined masonry walls under cyclic lateral loading. Ten confined masonry walls were designed according to the Eurocode. They were constructed in a scale 1:1.5. Three different connection details between the masonry and concrete ties were applied: (a) no connection, (b) tooth-shaped connection and (c) dowel stirrups. Constituent materials were tested according to the relevant standards and basic mechanical properties were determined. Identification of the collapse mechanism, hysteresis loops, resistance envelope curve and secant stiffness were obtained. Experimental results were reproduced by calibrated nonlinear FEM 2D micro-models of the walls with material nonlinearity taken into account. Good agreement between experimental and numerical analysis was achieved and calibrated models could be further used for extended parameter analysis.
