(Inter)disciplinarity of Social Simulation - the example of JASSS
The lecture examines the presumption that social simulation is a highly interdisciplinary field, by analyzing the backgrounds and collaboration patterns of authors in the Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation (JASSS). The research reveals that, although a high level of interdisciplinary collaboration is present in JASSS, it is mostly centered around computer engineers, who provide technical expertise in the creation of simulation for models of social phenomena. Also, a relative marginalization of social sciences is established and problematized, as a possible source of reductionist perspectives on the social in this field of research.
