Internet as a Sales and Distribution Channel in Tourism and the Hotel Industry
The subject of research is the Internet as a sales and distribution channel, and its role in tourism and the hotel industry. The paper defines the role of the Internet as a sales and distribution channel, explores its strengths and weaknesses, elucidates the effect of the Internet on tourism supply and demand, and gauges the further development of this channel of sales and distribution. The paper also analyses the Internet distribution of travel and tourism services in Europe and worldwide, and compares the state of Internet usage in Croatian tourism and the hotel industry. Finally, closing remarks are made concerning the state and role of the Internet as a sales and distribution channel, and guidelines are suggested for Croatian hoteliers that will enable them to keep abreast of world tourism trends and be on an equal footing with other actors on the online tourism market
