Concentrations of organic solvents in ground and wastewater in Zagreb area in 2002.
Chlorinated hydrocarbons- carbon tetrachloride, 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane, trichlorethene and tetrachloroethene are used as organic solvents in dry-cleaning and metal-degreasing operations in industry. Due to their high toxicity and hazard for human health, in Croatia they are mandatory monitoring in drinking water and wastewater, but not in surface waters. The aim of this research is to examine concentration of organic solvents in such private wells in the area of Zagreb, as well as a level of organic solvents in industrial wastewater, high are potential cause of ground and surface water contamination. All the concentration for both wastewater and water from private wells were under maximum allowed values when compared to Croatian and WHO standards.
