Sažetak
Previous studies of karst aquifers confirmed that there is strong correlation between recession coefficient and aquifer characteristics, and pointed to possible strong correlation between the precipitation amount and karst system drainage regimes. The strength of this correlation was tested on six major karst springs on the Istrian peninsula (Croatia) replenished by precipitation only (Bulaž, Gradole, Sv. Ivan, Kokoti, Rakonek and Fonte Gaia). Representative recession curves were singled out for each spring for the period between 1994 and 2007, and the recession coefficient determined. The correlation between precipitation and recession coefficient was mathematically described by exponential/log functions, and reliability was expressed by correlation coefficient. Among all the observed springs, high correlation between precipitation and recession coefficient (R>0.7) was determined for the Kokoti spring only. Significant correlation was noticed for high and medium water levels of the Bulaž spring (R≈0.5), slight correlation between precipitation and recession coefficient was observed for Gradole spring (R≈0.3), and low correlation coefficient was obtained for Sv.Ivan, Fonte Gaia and Rakonek springs and for low water levels of the Bulaž spring. These results suggest a weak correlation of precipitation and the karst system drainage regime, but more reliable results the analysis would ask for a longer time series. There is also a problem of long recession periods that result from the geographical position of the observed areas where moderately warm humid climate is predominant with an even distribution of precipitation throughout the year which undoubtedly affect the regime of groundwater drainage from the karst aquifer system.
