Managing Heritage and Cultural Tourism Resources in Dubrovnik
An important determinant of each nation is culture which is represented with the universality of the knowledge, beliefs, behaviours and the actions of the local communities. The cultural heritage as a main concept of a culture is an integral part of the culture identity. As an anthropogenic resource, culture heritage is often valorised in tourism, regardless the occurred form. Correlation between cultural heritage and tourism has benefits for the both sides and also for the local community. The cultural heritage enriches tourism products and improves the quality of the tourism destination. The tourism with the adequate managing revitalizes cultural heritage and contributes to its efficient protection and preservation. Segmentation of the tourism market caused the development of the specific tourism products. One of such specific product is certainly cultural tourism, which development was based on cultural heritage. Culture, culture heritage and tourism are increasingly being used to promote tourism destination and enhance destination attractiveness and competitiveness. Also tourism and culture heritage became very interesting area for the many researchers who tried to analyze the best model of correlation between mentioned elements. An example of the intense tourism valorisation of cultural heritage is certainly the city of Dubrovnik known as a UNESCO world heritage city. From the very beginning of tourism development in Dubrovnik culture and cultural heritage were the most important segments of the overall tourist supply. Dubrovnik has recently turned to the more intensive development of the specific tourism products and cultural tourism product with the all tangible and intangible assets is certainly one of the most important destination product. An adequate development of the cultural tourism product which include managing and valorisation of the cultural - historical heritage will contribute not only for cultural and tourism sector, but also for the local community. Dubrovnik requires better organisation of cultural tourism, better co-operation of everyone who is directly or indirectly involved with culture and the formation of an authority that will manage the cultural tourism in Dubrovnik. The paper determines model that would manage the development of cultural tourism in Dubrovnik in accordance with sustainable development.
