Surface characterization of washed textiles
The research is focused on a surface characterization of cotton textiles before and after washing process with different types of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) added to IEC A BASE detergent. CMC is mostly incorporated into detergents proper for cellulosic fibres at concentrations that ensure keeping the monolayer which protects the fibre from soil redeposition (e.g. clay) onto the surface. The adsorbed CMC monolayer considerably increases negative charge of the surface, due to higher density of carboxylic groups (-COO-). Surface modification of cotton fabrics after washing with detergent formulation containing two types of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMCs) was analysed employing microscopy and physical-chemical properties of cellulose by iodine adsorption (ISV). The impact of two types of SCMCs, differing in purity, chemical characteristics and morphology are analysed by scanning electron microscope using scattered (SE) and back scattered (BSE) detectors.
