How to reach 100% renewables in the sustainable electricity production
Climate change and volatile oil and gas markets are the main drivers that most countries emphasize the role of renewable energy and energy efficiency in their energy roadmaps toward 2030 and beyond. Neutral and low carbon technologies are also included in some energy policy scenarios but they are not gladly accepted in some countries by “green” NGOs and the public due to their nuclear and coal background. Energy produced from renewable energy sources is at the first sight promising in the future energy balance and can mislead non-expert public that switching from traditional carbon reach fuels to green and clean technologies will be easy and not cost effective. The main problem in energy production from renewable energy sources is their variable and stochastic production. Stationary and non-stationary energy storage systems combined with high integration of the new generation of control systems and optimization tools in control centers dedicated to renewable energy sources are currently only sustainable solutions for their higher contribution in energy balance. Within this framework this paper will present the overview of the worldwide demonstration projects and proposed solutions with author’s point of view how to reach 100% renewables in the sustainable electricity production.
