Assessment of noise around a major road in Zagreb considering the existing urban layout

Major roads represent significant noise sources in cities. As-build design around Zagreb major roads shows a diverse urban landscape that can be used as a starting point in exploration of urban landscape planning from perspective of noise research and control. A case study from city of Zagreb will be represented regarding the existing urban layout surrounding the major road with AADT over 60, 000 vehicles. Various acoustical parameters will be determined for representative assessment places on the most exposed façade and a possible quiet façade. The choice of assessment places will be made according to current placement, shape and size of buildings along the road. Positive and negative building configurations, in context of noise control, will be pointed out as potential examples for consideration in future urban planning.
