Static anthropometry measures of tram drivers in Bosnia & Herzegovina important for tram control panel design
This paper presents the results of measurements and/or calculations of the range of static anthropometric measures relevant for the determination of normal and maximum arm reach for tram drivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Anthropometric measures were taken of a random sample of 64 tram drivers (from a population of 132). A maximum arm reach of the central 90% was defined. Results should be taken into account during new tram cab design for new trams ; frequently used instruments on the control panel must be positioned predominantly within the normal arm reach. A multi-controller for frequently used functions (braking module and accelerator) with one hand, positioned in the same place in different tram series, will reduce the driver’s perception-response time, as well as the driver's subjective perception of workload.
