Sažetak
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels power plants, CO2 underground storage is one of perspective options. There are three major steps in CO2 capture and storage (CCS): the capture and compression of CO2, transport of captured CO2 to a storage location and its sequestration into the underground formations, i.e. trapping of CO2 in the underground for at least few hundred years. The research of CO2 injection in Croatia reached very high level by taking into account several hydrocarbon fields which are a part of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) projects initiated in late eighties. The fact that Croatia signed the Kyoto Protocol in 1999 thereby committing itself for reduction of the greenhouse gases emission by 5 % in the 2008-2012 period as compared to the base year of 1990 (after ratification in 2007 Croatia is allowed to increase the base year emission because of unfavorably chosen 1990.) made these projects current not only because of additional oil recovery. The main assumption at this stage is that quantity of CO2 (mass or number of moles) that can be stored into depleted oil and gas field is equal to mass of oil and gas produced and the calculation accuracy depends on available data. In this paper will be presented parameters that were used for storage capacity calculation (as the part of EU FP6 Geocapacity project) for selected sites in Sava and Drava Depression in northern part of Croatia
