Strenghtening adoptive immunity via innate immunity
The impact of NK cell response on subsequent T cell response is subject of intensive study. We have previously shown that expression of NKG2D ligand Rae-1 in MCMV genome results in strong virus attenuation in vivo. In spite of this, the specific immune response induced by this highly attenuated virus was equal or even better than the response induced by wild type MCMV. Based on these interesting observations we tested vector capacity of MCMV expressing Rae-1. To that aim we constructed the recombinant MCMV expressing CD8 epitope of various pathogens, with or without expression of Rae-1. The results demonstrated that expression of this NKG2D ligand enhances CD8 response.
