A comparative survey of trophy charachteristics in prehistoric and recent deer
The osteometric processing of 86 hunting exhibits of the red deer of ages one to 15 years old showed a link between the expanse of the frontal bone in the orbit area and the range of the antlers. This link was used in processing bone samples from deer from the Aeneolithic period (3 500BC) from the Vučedol archaeological site in Eastern Slavonia to estimate and survey trophy characteristics. Bone samples were processed by Duerst (1927) and Driesch (1976). The values maesured for the red deer were compared with the results of measurements for the "Vučedol deer" ; these show the trophy magnificence of the prehistoric deer.
