Multilateration Technique in the Function of Air Traffic Control

Airport traffic Capacity is determined by Air Traffic Control System, runway, taxi ways and platforms capacity and capacity of aircraft, passengers and cargo handling section. On the ATC as capacity element, which with aircraft separation on the lending/departures procedures has directly impact on the airport traffic capacity which could be between others affected commencing with an appropriate surveillance system. A possibility to increase traffic capacity by installing a surveillance system based on multilateration technique is presented in the case of the Airport Mostar. Development of classic surveillance systems in the present conditions would mean high investment costs and big maintenance cost. Systems which for determination of aircraft position use multilateration technique could be acceptable way out because of its technical-technological characteristics and prices. It is shown that in the condition of the 30 minute aircraft separation the capacity rise of the platform and taxi ways doesn't have a big impact on airport traffic. Only by including a surveillance system for the arrival/departure operation which has the impact on the reduction of the time separation between aircrafts, it is possible to assure conditions for the significant raise of an airport traffic capacity.
