INFLUENCE OF DIE ON IMPROVEMENT OF BENDING ACCURACY

There is a large number of procedures for manufacturing of work pieces by bending. The kind and size of work pieces on one side, and requirements relating to shape and accuracy on the other side, determine many of these bending procedures. Press, die, friction, work piece geometry and product properties influence bending accuracy. This paper analyses the influence of die on elastic spring back, and consequently on shape and accuracy of the bent product. Three forms of dies are taken into consideration: opened, half-opened and the closed die. Results of relative bend angle error depend on the applied max. force for the aforementioned types of dies given in the diagram. While the relative bend angle error decrease rapidly towards zero after exceeding of max. error at half opened dies, this process is significantly slower with closed dies.
