Functional brain mapping by magnetoencephalographic techniques
Magnetoecephalography (MEG), a novel technique which measures extremely weak extracranial magnetic fields of neuronal origin and allows localization of underlying neuronal substrates, is introduced and compared with other available brain functional imaging techniques. Main projects and results of the Los Alamos Neuromagnetism Group, where the authors has spent about 5 years, are presented and the future of MEG research is discussed. Establishment of an MEG research program in Croatia in the near future is envisaged which could greatly benefit from future USA-Croatia collaborative efforts.
