Influence of Voltage Constraints in a Local Distribution Network on Injected Powers of Small-scale Power Plants
Energy potentials available in the renewable energy sector, especially in coastal regions and on islands, open up new prospects for electricity supply. The most privileged locations of small-scale power plants are the islands. Due to the locations of the islands as well as due to the fact that their electricity is supplied through underwater cables, small-scale power plants are offered a big chance. As a rule the islands with low population density are located far from any electrical connection points. High capital costs encourage maximum usage of the existing network infrastructure. Island electricity distribution networks are characterised by long three-phase medium voltage lines. The size of small-scale power plants can be limited by voltage tolerance. This paper presents a new method to determine injected real powers of small-scale power plants directly from voltage limits and from reactive power injections. This method can be applied both to meshed and to radial distribution networks.
