Visual Programming Languages as User Interface Performers
The desire for friendly, user-centered, user interfaces is leading to visual forms of interaction between humans and computers. The strength of visual programming languages lies in their ability to enable programming with graphical expressions, providing thus a more natural way of making the process of programming easier for end users. To reach the full potential of computer systems, namely applications being executed on them, end users will have to be able to customize the application and the user interface. Thus, by chaining together visual expressions in the process of programming to shape the application and the user interface, more and more users will exploit both the visual programming paradigm and visual programming languages instead of using traditional one-dimensional ones. The paper elaborates this issue by presenting some possibilities of creating user interfaces building upon visual programming languages.
