Investigation of FeS nanoparticles electrochemical behavior with use of voltammetric and amperometric measurements
In recent years, nanoparticles (particles in the size range of 1nm to 100 nm) have received considerable attention from both science and industry because of their unique properties and potential societal benefits. Naturally-occurring nonmaterials such as volcanic ash, ocean spray, magnetotactic bacteria, mineral composites and others are ubiquitously present in the environment but still there is lack of published data and knowledge about their abundence, environmental transformation, toxicity and chemical and/or physical properties. Absence of data is consequence of lack of analytical techniques needed for their detection at low environmental level. In anoxic environments FeS nanoparticles play an important role in many biogeochemical processes such as control of bioavailability of many trace metals and pyrite formation. We already demonstrated possibility of using voltammetric measurements for chalcogenide, particularly FeS nanoparticles detection in anoxic waters. However, combination of voltammetric and amperometric measurements seems to be promising for concentration and size determination of FeS nanoparticles in natural waters.
