Bilingualism
This paper examines the issue of bilingualism. It tries to define bilingualism and explain it through monolingual and bilingual views of bilingualism proposed by Grosjean, simultaneous and successive ways of acquiring languages, different types of bilinguals and codeswitching. Besides the theoretical part, the paper also contains a case study examining the linguistic habits of a child who grew up with his American father and Croatian mother (thus being brought up as a simultaneous bilingual). The case study is conducted with the purpose of confirming the theoretical part of the paper, and it is made up of four parts: the description of methodology, the interaction with the mother, the interaction with the child, and at the end of the case study, there is a discussion which offers a short comparison of the theoretical and practical parts of the thesis.
