Renewable Energy Solutions for the Regions: Integrated Approach to Energy and Water Systems
Most of the countries and islands depend on the expensive oil derivatives importation. Some countries are trying to become 100% renewable, satisfying their energy demand mainly or entirely from indigenous and renewable sources. Since most available renewable energy sources are intermittent, energy storage has to be devised. On the other hand in many places there is already an excellent storage potential in the local water supply system. The paper shows a model and results of such energy systems applied on the regions in Croatia and Portugal, by using H2RES model. H2RES model has been designed as support for simulation of different scenarios devised by RenewIsland/ADEG methodology with specific purpose to increase integration of renewable energy sources and storage into energy systems of regions. Finally, energy system of Jordan together with desalination potential was reviewed.
