Minor physical anomalies in schizophrenic and schizoaffective patients and non - psychiatric controls: assessment of group – an sex - specific differences
MPAs (minor physical anomalies) are subtle anomalies and asymmetries present in many body regions, mostly located in the facial area that have been found to be more common in psychiatric patients. Our research was conducted in order to investigate differences in distribution of several anthropometric measures and MPA of the craniofacial region in two different groups: patents- control group and the gender group. The results of our investigation confirmed the earlier robust finding of higher prevalence of MPAs in the population of schizophrenia patients when compared to non-psychiatric controls and present evidence supporting the hypothesis of higher proneness of male sex to embryonal maldevelopment (as they have shown a greater number of MPA).
