Investigation of lateral fabric shrinkage due to longitudinal extension to breakage
During use fabrics suffer stresses in all directions. Depending on the use, stresses may be higher or lower, resulting in different requirements placed on fabrics. Fabric extension in one (longitudinal) direction will cause fabric shrinkage in the other (transverse) direction. In order to investigate lateral forces arising due to longitudinal extension of the fabric to breakage, an innovative device for measuring forces in the transverse direction of the fabric during testing tensile forces on the tensile strength tester was developed. This paper describes testing of fabric tensile forces in accordance with the standard and tensile forces and lateral shrinkage of fabrics in two non-standard ways. Lateral forces due to longitudinal fabric extension and the correlation between the tensile forces of the samples tested as standard and non-standard will be investigated.
