Research corner joints in corpus furniture
Flat corner joining is the most often used method in assembly of case furniture. This paper, therefore, has been researching the influence of dowels, back plate, bolt with rotating wedge, screw for wood and confirmat screw to the bending moment. The research was done on corner samples with dimensions of 100 x 100 x 100 (mm), made of three-layer chipboard, 18 mm thick, refined with foil. Based on the results of the research, the greatest bending moment was achieved in connections using a confirmat screw, and the weakest in connections using bolt with rotating wedge, 2.5 times weaker on average. The reason is delamination of chipboard during testing, while such delamination of chipboard was not observed in confirmat screw and screw for wood joints. It is characteristic of these types of samples for the bolt head to get pushed through the layers of the board itself. Average bending moment of the samples connected by confirmat screw amounted to 32.9 Nm, by dowel to 23.6 Nm, and by joining plate to 19.6 Nm.
