The ecological aspects of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from crude oil on shuttle tanker
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)from crude oil comprise a range of volatile gases that pollute atmosphere: deplete ozone layer, influence on the greenhouse effect, create smog and ozone at ground level. The technology for cutting discharge in the atmosphere and combustion of VOCs from the shuttle tanker should saving fuel in a ship propulsion plant and lowering exaust gas emission. On today's vessels the VOCs gasses are usually vented to the atmosphere , including inert gas, particulate, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx). According to the International Convention for the Preventing of Pollution from Ships 1973, as modified by Protocol of 1978 relating thereto (MARPOL 73/78) the new Annex VI - Regulation for the Prevention of atmosphere pollution from Ships is not yet in force. For this reason should be discussed in this paper about an innovative system for collection and utilization VOCs in ship propulsion engine.
