Opportunities of passenger liner shipping development in Croatia

Passenger liner shipping consists of national, county, inter-county, local and international lines. In this paper the national lines of the Republic of Croatia are analysed. Current Croatian coastal passenger shipping system consists of passenger (pax) and freight– passenger vessels (ro- pax), mainland and island ports, and ferry, high- speed and conventional passenger ship (classic) lines. Each of this lines provide or multilink link or single/short-link. Coastal transport plays a crucial role in national cohesion in various respects. Development of liner passenger transport is mainly important to preserve inhabitation of the island in order to equalise the conditions for the economic development of islands with those of the mainland. Passenger traffic on Croatian state maritime lines is constantly increasing and it is important to provide qualitative service Regulatory authority on all matters regarding liner passenger transport in the Adriatic Sea in Republic of Croatia is Coastal liner service agency. One of the responsibilities of the Coastal liner service agency is operational implementation of Maritime coastal liner traffic information system.
