Technical demands for defining the criteria in furniture design
Frequent trend changes of design solutions, together with growing complexity and the need for greater variability, demand from the manufacturers higher market productivity. New functional needs caused the development of new materials which number increases every day. This situation on market questions product design quality that is often defined only with concept of shape without ergonomic and anthropometric principles. Technical demands also must have the same importance for good design solution, because they define all furniture design criteria afterwards. Besides knowing the material properties, technology and construction, an insight in suitability of every product feature and product function from the aspect of user must be done. This is required to perform the optimal constructional solution. Before placing a product in a price category, a definition of user needs, together with final product usage conditions have to be made. Therefore, co-operation of experts who define design, constructional and technological solutions is of great importance. According to that, integration of information circulation will become a big support. The need for integration of present heterogeneous computer applications is getting more important - from the ones that offer design-constructional solutions, to information necessary for complete production and its management, as well as for the development of transfer of information between them. When a product is in a projection stage, definition of quality brings significant savings of production time, together with lower total price of final product. It results in decrease of production waste and directly influence on environment protection. This study introduces examples of mutual interaction of materials, construction and design, together with criteria that brings optimal quality of final product.
