The ACE-DD genotype distribution demonstrates possible age dependence among patients with diabetic nephropathy
Over the past few decades diabetes mellitus has expanded to epidemic size.Evidence for a genetic component to diabetic nephropathy comes from family studies displaying familial aggregation of diabetic nephropathy both in type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as differences in prevalence of diabetic nephropathy between etnic groups. An excess of DD genotype was found among patients with nephropathy younger than 66 years(45.3%) compared to those of the same age but with preserved renal function(22.9%).The difference is statisticaly significant( χ2=6.751 ; p=0.034).
