Association of ACE DD-genotype in women with renal disease
The aim of the study was to investigate the significance of insertion/deletion polymorphism of angiotensine converting enzyme (ACE) as a possible contributing factor in the development of diabetic nephropathy. Females with end stage renal disease showed higher frequency of DD genotype than those with preserved renal function (41% vs. 28%, p=0, 038). In addition, the D allel frequency was significantly higher in women with diabetic nephropathy compared to controls (χ2=6, 345 ; p=0, 011), respectively, only one of ten women does not posses the D allel.
