The Effects of BPC 157 on Histamine Induced Changes in Broiler Chicks
The influence of different histamine doses on the broiler fattening and organ weight indices in chicks unknown. BPC 157 has strong cyto- and organoprotective effects esspecially in the gastrointestinal disorders. Thus, the purpose of this work was to clarify the relationships between the histamine and BPC 157 in broilers. In the experiment the chickens (Hybro) were divided in six groups: C (n=16) 10 mg of histamine was added per kilo of food ; H2 (n=16) 500 mg of histamine was added per kilo of food ; H1+BPC (n=16) 10 mg of histamine and 10 ug per kilo of food of BPC 157 ; H2+BPC (n=16) 500 mg of histamine and 10 ug per kilo of food of BPC 157 ; BPC (n=16) 10 ug per kilo of food of BPC 157. During fattening (42 days), individual chick weights were recorded weekly and food consumption was measured. At the end of the fattening period, chicks were exsanguinated under chloroform anaesthesia and the sex and body weight of eych chick was recorded. Also, the organ indices for heart, liver, proventriculus, spleen and bursa of Fabricius were calculated. Histamine in the higher dosage improved weight gaind and food conversion that was abolished with a simultaneous application of BPC 157. Analysis of the organ weight indices showed BPC influence of liver, heart, spleen and bursa of Fabricius and antagonisation of histamine effects in the liver, proventriculus and gizzard. Based on this data it can be concluded that BPC 157 has significant antihistaminic effect, probably pointed to the h2 receptors.
