EXPLOITATION, RESERVES AND TRANSPORT OF NATURAL GAS IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA
From 2003 to 2010 a 21, 427.128x106 m3 of natural gas were exploited. In contrast to gas production trend from Adriatic, a production decline in the Pannonian basin area is apparent. Croatian proven reserves of natural gas are 76, 903.991x106 m3 of which 26, 216.393x106 m3 are economically exploitable. 12, 223.770 x106 m3 are from the Adriatic and 13, 992.623x106 m3 from the Pannonian basin. A decline in domestic exploitation is implied after 2014 when imported volumes will be equal to the exploited thus affecting the economy and other consumers. Estimated 7x109 m3 of natural gas will be imported in 2030. Length of the gas transportation system in Croatia is 2113 km which includes exploitation, PSP Okoli, 37 distribution systems and 27 end consumer pipelines. Three future import routes are possible: Nabucco, Southern stream and IAP (Ion-Adriatic Pipeline). LNG terminal construction should give a great contribution for further development of Croatia’s energy system and economy.
