The impact of personal background factors on entrepreneurship and intentions of starting a business: The case of the University of Dubrovnik, Croatia
The purpose of this paper is to investigate students' direction towards self-employment or working for an employer and to ascertain whether there are differences in perceptions of entrepreneurs and intentions to become an entrepreneur if the students come from a family of business owners. The empirical research is conducted on students of business economy at the University of Dubrovnik, Croatia who, based on the field of study, are most likely to enter in the process of entrepreneurship. The research instrument is a survey questionnaire with 21 questions which covered five dominant areas: demographic characteristics, type of potential business, financial aspects of business, the method of implementing a business idea and the source of information needed to generate idea on the market. This paper is based on the descriptive and multivariate statistical analysis which have shown differences between intentions to own their business and influence of a family business in perception to become an entrepreneur. Practical implications and directions for further research are discussed.
