Voltammetry of Iron(III) Complexes with Siderophore Chrysobactin
Voltammetric investigations of iron(III)– chrysobactin complexes in aqueous solution at static mercury electrode, were performed. With c(Fe)=(0.5–30)×10−7 mol dm−3 and c(Cb)=(0.5– 100)×10−7 mol dm−3 in pH range from 6.7 to 10.0 one-electron reduction of Fe(III)-Cb complex was registered with peak potential Ep from -0.64 V to -0.74 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The reduction process depended on solution composition (c(Fe), c(Cb) and pH). Complex adsorbed at the mercury drop surface. Presumed stoichiometry of detected complex is Fe(III): Cb = 1:3 (FeCb3). The complex showed EC reduction mechanism. These investigations are of biological importance as well, since provide an insight into possible reduction mechanism in the bacterial cells that use chrysobactin to acquire the iron.
