Clinical legal education in Croatia – from providing legal assistance to the poor to practical education of students
By the adoption of the Legal Aid Act in 2008, legal clinics in Croatia have become legally authorized providers of legal aid. Four legal clinics established by four Law schools are currently operating in Croatia, where the one operating in Zagreb is unique with respect to its organizational structure and active role in the Croatian legal aid system and in the educational system. Therefore the purpose of this paper is to show the characteristics of the legal clinic in Zagreb through several main points: - target group for services provided by the clinic ; - legal clinic leadership ; - legal clinic integration in regards to traditional legal teaching ; - relationship to traditional legal teachings - engagement of professionals and NGO’s. In order to show the achievements regarding the active role of the legal clinic in bulding an effective legal aid system and educational system, we will provide statistical data that will confirm the role and importance of clinical legal education to the entire community including the academic community as well
