Numerical Model of a Complex System Suitable for Design Optimization of a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger

In the present paper, the mathematical model of a liquid to liquid shell and tube heat exchanger is developed, using the procedure for automatic generation of the system of differential equations that describe unsteady behavior of a complex system. The heat exchanger is described as a system consisting of heat exchanger structural elements and heat transfer fluids. Simple changes of heat transfer fluids path and heat exchanger geometric variables are possible by using the presented model during the design process. Numerical simulation was performed in order to present features of the model for constructive optimization of a heat exchanger.
