AN IMPROVED MICROMECHANICAL MODEL OF WOVEN FABRIC FOR TENSILE SIMULATION

The paper deals with a micromechanical model of woven fabric in uniaxial tension. The model is based on geometrical structure of basic cell and takes into account axial and bending resistances of the yarn. In order to cover the effect of residual permanent deformation, typically recorded in the tensile test on KES-FB1 testing device, the model is enhanced by a member describing elastic - plastic deformation of the yarn. Two different types of elastic - plastic member are applied: bilinear, which can be considered as combination of two springs and friction slider, and exponential saturation type, in which the transition from elastic to plastic behaviour is gradual. It has been found that the model, in which geometric and material nonlinearities are combined, can reproduce the realistic tensile response in whole loading-unloading cycle with reasonable accuracy. Since the model is characterised by a very limited number of basic parameters, the effect of secondary phenomena is covered by optimisation for best fit in comparison of theoretical and experimentally recorded tensile curves. It appears that the model with elastic - plastic member of exponential saturation type gives better results in terms of error minimisation.
