A Contribution to the Calculation of the Loading Capacity of Internal High Contact Ratio Gears

Design optimisations have lead to increased gearbox power ratings, with reduced size and weight. This has lead to the use of high contact ratio (HCR) gears, because these gears distribute the load between at least two tooth pairs in mesh, enabling the use of smaller and lighter gears. The loading capacity of internal gears has not been thoroughly researched yet, and even less has been done so far on internal HCR gears. The purpose of this paper is to present a viable alternative to the method outlined in ISO 6336 and a comparison with results obtained using finite element method analysis.
