Homogenization of steam boiler membrane wall
Membrane wall of the steam boiler is geometrically determined as orthotropic plate (Timoshenko, 1959). Boilers are normally supported or hanged on the collection/distribution chambers. Due to specific furnace, some versions of the waste incinerators boilers are supported by the supports which are welded on the membrane walls. Because of orthotropic mechanical properties of the boiler construction (membrane walls), there is a problem of determining the reactions in supports, as well as deflection of membrane walls (EN 12952-3:2001). By existing analytical methods, which are based on the theory of bending the straight beam, obtained results have significant deviation in relation to the measured results. Furthermore, finite element method for the construction of boiler has significant limitations, because discretization by the shell elements requires a large number of finite elements. This paper proposes a procedure for approximating the membrane wall using orthotropic plate for approximating the stiffness of the real membrane wall (Sertić, 2011). Stiffness of membrane wall is defined specifically for the membrane load and for bending load (Milošević, 2012).
