Reactions of the iron(III) tetrasulfophthalocyanin complex with peroxo oxidants
We report kinetic and mechanistic studies on the reactions between FePcS and peroxide type inorganic oxidants H2O2 and HSO5-. These processes are the core reactions in the catalytic applications of FePcS, especially in the oxidations of chlorinated pollutants, in which our research group is interested in. Our results show that these reactions are complicated multistep redox processes, which include several absorbing intermediates and lead to the complete destruction of the phthalocyanine macrocycle. In addition, we found that the monomer/dimer equilibria of FeIIIPcS play fundamental roles in the overall oxidation process.
