Corrosion research and control of materials in marine environment
Corrosion is defined as natural occurring phenomena of metals and other materials deterioration by a reaction with environment. The prevention and control of corrosion is a complex task due to specific properties of exposed materials and aggressive environmental factors. One should define corrosion problems and then determine an effective solution to prevent or reduce corrosin impact on the materials or the all construction of the exposed objsct.Among high corrosion-causing environmental factors is the sea water due to high concentration of chloride, the prsence of oxygen, different inorganic and organic ions, temperature variations micro and macro bio species, all related to the local geographical position.Geographical and economic position of our country, with a long sea coast, many islands, and economic activities, as offshore oil and gas productin, shipbuilding, sea transport, bridges, future development of wind mill parks for electric power production and developing infrastructure need many answers how to decrease the impact of corrosin to the econiomy and safety of the encvironment. In this paper some specific and relatively new cases of metal corrosion activity due to the sea water are discussed.
